Chimney Crickets - What Are They and What Do They Do?
A
chimney cricket is a small, false roof behind a projection such as a chimney. The roof cricket is shaped like the arch- or peaked-shaped wicket used in both of these games. Also called a saddle, a cricket is designed to shed water away from the chimney or other roof projection; it's usually capped with a large piece of sheet-metal flashing. In some cases, a large flashing that collects water where two roof slopes meet is also called a cricket.
If you have a leaky chimney that is positioned so that a good bit of water impacts the "up the roof" side of the chimney, you should have a "cricket" in back of the chimney. The cricket is a small "roof" type structure that causes water flowing toward the chimney from upwards on the roof to divert to either side of the chimney and not impact right into the chimney and it's associated flashing. Crickets can be added to your roof to repair the problem that you may have. At Springfield Roofing, Inc. we have installed many chimney crickets in the Atlanta area. If you are looking for an Atlanta
